Gnawing on the remains of a bone, once chewed by a German Shepherd, light blue orbs gazed at a small cart. Being pushed by a rather tall human, music seemed to flow out of a small box placed on the top of the white cart. The music meant nothing to Jade, but the food did. Small children, to Jade's great dislike, "bounced" up to the man and handed him some paper. In return for the paper, they each received a frozen treat, with a smile from the man. Little did Jade know that this was an ice cream, but then again, she understood little about a human's life. Pushing the bone aside, the Red Border Collie waited patiently as the young customers waved a "bye" to the old man, and walked off. Gathering up her courage, Jade proceeded to take a frozen treat off of the cart. Starting off at a small pace, each step gathered courage inside of her. When she finally had enough courage to run, the canine zoomed off. Leaping rather absent-mindly, her paws delicately landed on top. The man stared in horror as drool was added as a "topping" for the ice cream.
"Shoo! Shoo!" The human's actions meant nothing to the starved collie, as she placed her mouth in and grabbed one. Smiling to show a "thanks" to the old man, she hopped off and ran at full speed. The man only stared in awe as the pesky mongrel as he called it, ran off. Uttering words and shaking his head, the man continued his small business, but his mind was still on the strange customer.
Meanwhile, Jade had found herself running towards a deserted road. Her mind wasn't on where she was going, but was on escaping the old man. Stopping to catch her breath, Jade decided to find shelter and gobble up the frozen treat before it became another canine's lunch. Looking around, each house was occupied by a person. Probably a person who didn't want an adult female dog in their house. Jade had never had an owner before in her life. Her life had just been filled with street smarts. Each step produced an even tearful sigh from her throat, as the femme wondered what it was like having an owner. Shaking her head at this thought, the Red Border Collie grinned. I was born here, and I have to live here all my life. Nodding her head after this sermon type of sentence, a miracle seemed to happened. Following the road, Jade came across a path that led to an old mansion.
Walking cautiously inside the chipped and broken door, the place was pitch black, with only a bright light coming from the windows. Each staircase step groaned with pain as Jade stepped upon them. Cobwebs full of spiders seemed to move out of the way, as they felt a presence coming towards their way. Lying on the sixth step, the femme wolfed down her lunch, and looked around. This looked like a very good place for shelter, but was too large for one dog. No matter how big, such as a Great Dane. Looking around the cobwebbed filled place, Jade knew what she wanted and had to do. This place should be a sanctuary, no, a pack. A pack for other canines like her. And the Red Border Collie would be the alphess. Howling joyfully, Jade's message was sent throughout the deserted street. Though her howl was joyful, inside she was as nervous as going to the vet. Would she be capable of being an alphess? Her brain said no, but her heart said yes. Her loving mother's words seemed to replay in her mind as Jade's howl was sent through the deserted street. Always follow your heart, my Jade. I WILL! I WILL, MUM! JUST WATCH!
After a few more howls, the femme felt a need to mark her territory. Almost leaping down the stairs, her scent was sprayed through the whole house, except the places where she couldn't reach, such as the attic. But no matter. She was too proud and happy to become maddened over such a small thing. Howling once more, Jade's eyes sparkled brightly. "This...is...my...pack!"
